NV Energy net metering tiered by enrolment cohort. Tier 1 (closed) at 95% retail; Tier 2 (closed) at 88%; Tier 3 (closed) at 81%; Tier 4 (current) at 75% of retail rate for exported energy. Locked at enrolment for 20 years.
Nevada operates a tiered (declining-block) net-metering structure under SB 405 (2017). Each tier covers 80 MW of statewide capacity; once filled, new applicants enrol at the next, lower tier. As of mid-2026 the active tier compensates exports at 75% of retail rate for 20 years from enrolment. NV Energy administers the program for both Northern Nevada (Sierra Pacific) and Southern Nevada (Nevada Power) territories. The locked-in 20-year rate is a meaningful protection but the 75% rate makes storage-attached systems significantly more economical than pure grid-tied.
Property tax abatement on renewable-energy systems on residential and commercial property under NRS 701A. Effectively no property tax assessment increase from solar PV installation.
Nevada Revised Statutes 701A.200 and related provisions exempt qualifying renewable-energy systems from property tax assessment. Both residential and commercial systems benefit. The exemption is automatic on installation; no separate application is generally required, though disputed assessments are resolved through the local County Assessor. Battery storage installed alongside qualifying PV is included.
Standard NV sales tax of ~6.85–8.375% applies to most residential solar equipment. Sales tax exemptions for renewable energy components apply primarily to qualified large-scale projects under NRS 701A.210, not residential.
Nevada does not generally exempt residential solar PV equipment from sales/use tax. Large-scale renewable energy projects (typically ≥ 10 MW) may receive sales tax abatement under NRS 701A.210 with Governor's Office of Energy approval. Small residential installations are taxed at the standard combined state and local rate (6.85% to 8.375% depending on county). Confirm with installer that sales tax is itemised on the invoice.
Expired for systems placed in service after December 31, 2025.
Federal Section 25D expired for new installations as of January 1, 2026. Nevada's high solar irradiance (~6.4 PSH) keeps payback economics reasonable despite lower retail rates and the tiered NEM compensation; expect 9–12 year payback for typical residential installations in 2026 in NV Energy territory.
